Katie Steedly’s first-person piece [The Unspeakable Gift] is a riveting retelling of her participation in a National Institutes of Health study that aided her quest to come to grips with her life of living with a rare genetic disorder. Her writing is superb.
In recognition of receiving the Dateline Award for the Washingtonian Magazine essay, The Unspeakable Gift.

Resetting the Table
[A portion of my cover letter]
My career is built on telling stories and building capacity of individuals, organizations, and communities. I have developed compelling narratives across formats, audience, and platforms — often working closely with senior leadership, artists, and editorial teams — that effectively communicate information, message, and meaning. I have sat at every side of the programmatic table. I have gathered and utilized data to articulate impact, disseminate information, and foster relationships.
Saveur
What I Learn Hosting A Supper Club On Buford Highway
I started hosting a monthly Supper Club on Buford Highway in March of 2023. Having lived in Atlanta for 2 years, hearing again and again that Buford Highway — a location of culinary excellence, where we can “eat the world” in Atlanta — is a local gem. I wanted to check it out. I reached out to our friends, who reached out to their friends, who reached out to their friends. A group of 10 people of different ages and ethnicities gathered that first evening. Since that night, once a month for the last two years we have gathered in restaurants along Buford Highway. Gathering monthly along Buford Highway has been an antidote to the isolation and separation felt by so many right now.
This article fits Saveur because it will — 1. Highlight the diverse cuisines of Buford Highway. 2. Discuss the role of food and culture in building relationships. 3. Encourage culinary exploration and cultural connection.

Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Ohio University, the University of Cincinnati, several state Departments of Education, and the United States Department of Education. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
