My Rhythm
I finally found my rhythm when I realized even the steps backward were part of the dance.
Melody Godfred, Self Love Poetry: For Thinkers & Feelers
Steps backward. What are steps backward? Are they bad decisions or wrong moves or second guesses or mix ups? What does it mean to be out of step? What makes steps bad or wrong? In a world of gratitude for it all, what does backwards even mean?
Right now I have lost my rhythm. My dance is a clunky spiral in search of balance. There are a million reasons why I am off. I understand where I am. I even know, in my head, how to find my rhythm again. But, the journey from my head to my feet can be a thousand miles.
Finding my rhythm means really listening to the music. Finding my rhythm means knowing how to lead and follow. Finding my rhythm means knowing how to spot during turns. Finding my rhythm means knowing flexibility and grace and ease in my muscles and bones.
