Where were you when Mac Miller died?
The Elephant/ Yes, I will be/ your bent little teaspoon/ if you will have me how I am.
Maria Gray
People that “have us how we are” are blessings. People that know our secrets and love us anyway. People that encourage us to live big, loving lives. People that forgive us again and again and again. People that don’t walk away, whether we are at our best or worst. People that hold us just the way we need to be held, whether we know we need to be held or not. People that simply love us — trunk up and singing!
I know a few things for sure about people who have us how we are. People who have us how we are do not keep score. By keeping score I mean there is not a running list in their head of who has done what for whom, and when did they do it, and how did they do it, and how many miles across how many snowy mountains did they have to traverse to do it. People who have us how we are rejoice in our success as much as we rejoice in theirs. People who have us how we are don’t seek to hurt us. Ever. People who have us how we are don’t couch anger as honesty and love.
May we all be surrounded with people who have us how we are. May we be the kind of people who have others as they are. May we simply love — trunk up and singing.
