Katie Steedly’s first-person piece [The Unspeakable Gift] is a riveting retelling of her participation in a National Institutes of Health study that aided her quest to come to grips with her life of living with a rare genetic disorder. Her writing is superb.

Thank you for the opportunity to explore creatively engaging with language and fun. As a writer who has spent years writing in formal contexts, I jump at the chance to use my brain in new ways. Currently, my newsletter — https://substack.com/@katiesteedlycurling — keeps me nimble.

Grant Writer for an Anti-Bullying Youth Musical
Creating a healthier, safer, creative, and more just world is the core of my professional journey. As an arts advocate, I have taught high school drama, evaluated arts programs, and crafted a research agenda built on wide-awakeness. As an applied researcher, I communicate technical program language to diverse audiences. As a writer, I develop compelling narratives that effectively articulate process, impact, innovation, and thought leadership. I bridge research, policy, and practice across diverse contexts to promote social justice. I build and sustain relationships and increase organizational capacity.
I have written successful grants and proposals throughout my career. I participated in prospecting, preparing, monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on local, state, and federal grants and proposals as Director of Evaluation and Outcomes for VSA arts of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Research Associate for the National Dissemination Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities (NICHCY), and the University of Cincinnati Evaluation Services Center. I currently write grants and proposals at Steedly Consulting. Successful grants and proposals include those to the United States Department of Education (the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Office of Special Education Programs) and AmeriCorps, state education and public health agencies in Indiana, Texas, Florida, and Ohio, and the Dana Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation, National Endowment for the Humanities, and National Endowment for the Arts.
I look forward to discussing how I can leverage my knowledge, skills, and abilities to support the development of the musical project.
Ghost Writing a Memoir
Thank you for the opportunity to explore this project.
Having independently published a memoir a few years ago, I understand the risk and reward of the process. From this side of the journey, and having blogged and slogged through a writer’s life for many years, writing the memoir was (along with my doctoral dissertation which was a qualitative exploration of wide-awakeness in a high school Theatre classroom) a profoundly valuable experience. I currently author a newsletter — the Wide-Awakeness — https://substack.com/@katiesteedlycurling — which chronicles my efforts to (as Mary Oliver instructs) pay attention, be amazed, and tell about it.
I believe stories heal, empathy is a superpower, and love wins.
